Curriculum / Activity Information
The curriculum for all ages/grades levels of Religious Education strives to promote a balance between “knowing about and being able to articulate the faith” and “making faith a lived reality of everyday life.”
In all our programs we use up-to-date materials that are consistent with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the National Catechetical Directory, and guidelines from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Materials are prepared and arranged so that they are easily presented by our many volunteer catechists.
Here at St. Vincent Pallotti we use the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies which are lectionary based, focused on the Liturgical Year and incorporating the four pillars of the Catholic Church: Profession of Faith (Creed); Sacraments / Liturgy; Christian Life; and Christian Prayer.
St. Vincent Pallotti Catechetical Program adopted The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth (CFH) as the primary text/ reference book in conjunction with the Bible for the entire high school program with a different emphasis each year to help young people grow in faith. The CFH is grounded in the four pillars of the Catholic faith outlined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Grade 9: Catechetical sessions on the Creed
Grade 10: Catechetical sessions on Christian Morality
Grades 11 & 12: Immediate preparation for Confirmation with reference to Catechetical sessions on Liturgy and the Sacraments
The High School Religious Education Program strives to provide young people and their families with a variety of faith experiences that are relevant to the needs of teens today. We hope that by following the principles of Youth Ministry we will be able to share a sense of Catholic identity and Christian Service through a heart for Christ. This is an excellent way to assist young people in deepening their faith as they move toward Confirmation in their Junior year. This program will also provide parents and families opportunities to share their wisdom and faith with teens.
Prayer is woven throughout the high school years. All manuals have solid content based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, use innovative methods, are very flexible and exhibit an understanding of youth. Vacation Bible School - St. Vincent Pallotti collaborates each year with parishes in Distric 12 for this activity. Vacation Bible School is generally held the second full week in June.
